Alsaif is acutely aware of her status as a trailblazer for female MMA fighters in Saudi Arabia and takes such a responsibility seriously. I feel I’m alive when I train, when I fight, in the gym – I can feel my soul alive. “When I breathe after the rounds, when I feel sick, when I feel tired, when I feel courage, when I feel scared, those moments, every part of that, it makes me feel alive. It’s something that means a lot to me.”Alsaif (right) competed in Muay Thai prior to MMA. Sadaa, coach of Saudi Arabia’s Muay Thai national team, has been central to Alsaif’s success, though his influence extends far beyond a sporting sphere.

CNN —The “best hotel in the world” was built by a pope and was regularly visited by one of Italy’s most famous opera composers. On 19 September in London at the inaugural World’s 50 Best Hotels, the hotel on Lake Como was named number one. Passalacqua didn’t invent the term villeggiatura, but her every detail embodies it – a romantic 18th century villa turned faultless luxury hotel where you come to exhale and leave your worries behind. Rooms without a lake view start at 1,300 euros ($1,381) per night or 1,700 euros ($1,806) for a view in November – lowest season. Next summer, rates rise to 2,300 euros ($2,443) for a standard room without a lake view, or 3,200 ($3,400) for the cheapest room with a view.

For the first time, scientists were able to show they can bend lightning from a storm with a laser. The project, 20 years in the making, required a super powerful laser to be shot into the sky. A powerful laser was able to deflect a lightning bolt almost 200 feet before it hit a lightning rod, greatly improving the rod's function. The Laser Lightning Rod is seen in place on top of a Swiss mountain. Joe Bavasso, now ALD’s vice president for product, had a job at Todd Snyder but sought out Mr. Santis in hopes that ALD would sponsor his summer basketball team in the Rockaways. A few years ago, Mr. Santis discovered the New Balance 550, a low-top lifestyle sneaker, in an old New Balance catalog and revived it as a collaborative release with ALD. Since then, the 550 has become in “a staple iconic franchise for New Balance,” said Chris Davis, the New Balance chief marketing officer and senior vice president for global merchandising. “It was one of those phenomenons in sneaker culture that only comes around once every few years.”

Over the last year, states across the country have passed laws banning drag performances and transgender health care, while protests and physical attacks on L.G.B.T.Q. Conservative-led boycotts against companies that once embraced Pride festivities, like Target and Anheuser Busch, have led to billions of dollars of corporate losses. Heritage of Pride, which organizes the march, recognized the worsening political climate in an open letter earlier this month that was co-signed with the organizers of dozens of other Pride events across the country. Across the country, a wave of state legislation has targeted L.G.B.T.Q. young people in particular, banning transgender health care for minors and barring teachers from discussing gay and transgender topics in schools.

The Trump campaign is accusing DeSantis of flip-flopping over his name. "I don't think that's what voters want," said DeSantis. "And honestly I think that his conduct, which he's been doing for years now, I think that's one of the reasons he's not in the White House now." When asked by Axios about the correct pronunciation, DeSantis' 2024 campaign refused to answer the question, and the pro-DeSantis super PAC, Never Back Down, also declined to say. As things stand, Trump leads in polls of Republican primary voters, while DeSantis is second, according to an aggregate of polls by FiveThirtyEight.

Later on Thursday he was back to using it liberally to trash the US military. He said: "I don't like the term 'woke' because I hear 'woke, woke, woke' — you know, it's like just a term they use, half the people can't even define it, they don't know what it is." Some things he has called woke:Meanwhile on Thursday, DeSantis' campaign was distracted by his inconsistent pronunciation of his surname.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law a bill that allows Disney's new real-estate developments to be canceled. Disney and DeSantis are in a long-running feud over the governor's strict social stance in Florida. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis stepped up his feud with Disney, threatening the company's real-estate empire with a fresh bill that could see new developments in the state cancelled. It was basically born out of Disney's arrogance that they would be able to subcontract around the duly enacted laws of the state of Florida," DeSantis said in a press conference Friday. But this was pared back by DeSantis months after Disney pledged to work to repeal a law employees and LGBTQ rights advocates called "Don't Say Gay."
Former President Donald Trump and other prominent Republicans criticized Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis ’s latest flare-up with Walt Disney Co., saying he had gone too far in interfering with a private business that is a driver of the state economy. “DeSanctus is being absolutely destroyed by Disney . plan fizzled, so now he’s going back with a new one in order to save face,” Mr. Trump said Tuesday, using a derogatory nickname for the governor, who is expected to soon enter the GOP presidential primary. Disney World is scheduled to host a major conference on gay rights in September, according to the Miami Herald. Even if he wants to be the Bob Iger of old he can't be.

[1/4] The Laser Lightning Rod, an experimental lighting protection device that diverts the path of lightning bolts using a high-power laser, is seen in action at the top of Mount Santis in Switzerland in this undated photograph. Scientists now are moving to improve on that 18th century innovation with 21st century technology - a system employing a high-powered laser that may revolutionize lightning protection. With further development, this Laser Lightning Rod could safeguard critical infrastructure including power stations, airports, wind farms and launchpads. In experiments during two months in 2021, intense laser pulses - 1,000 times per second - were emitted to redirect lightning strikes. Houard anticipated that 10 to 15 years more work would be needed before the Laser Lightning Rod can enter common use.

The other storyline should be how the outcome of the elections was a much better one for Democrats than the Beltway intelligentsia had been predicting.

Migrants told the Miami Herald they signed forms to board a flight to Delaware organized by Ron DeSantis. DeSantis said the flight — to near Biden's home — was arranged and then canceled to trick the media. The cancellation came as DeSantis faced a wave of criticism over flights carrying immigrants he chartered last week from Texas to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. "The entire Democrat-corporate media industrial complex swarmed Delaware today because they thought that DeSantis Air was gonna land there," she tweeted. Migrants taken to Martha's Vineyard have said they were lured onto the flights on false pretenses, and were promised benefits and job opportunities that didn't exist.
